The quick answer: choose the team structure you enjoy
Choose Travian: Legends for the classic alliance World Wonder race or a choice of seasonal rulesets. Choose Travian Kingdoms for defined ruler and governor roles, territory shaped by influence, and a team score built around treasures. These are separate games; a Legends Annual Special is still Legends, even when it uses Victory Points.
Our recommendation for a returning player who wants the familiar alliance endgame is a regular Legends 1x world. For a first Kingdoms round, start as a Governor in an established kingdom. If friends already have a team, their game, world and activity expectations should carry more weight than an abstract verdict about which game is better.
Kingdoms vs. Legends at a glance
This table compares core Kingdoms rules with regular Legends worlds. The Legends game-version overview explains special-world exceptions; the Kingdoms overview explains its roles and territory.
| Difference | Travian Kingdoms | Travian: Legends — regular worlds |
|---|---|---|
| Team structure | Kingdom with kings, dukes and governors; unions add a vice king | Alliance and confederacy cooperation |
| Territory | Active Treasuries generate influence and kingdom borders | Settlement and conquest; no Kingdoms-style influence borders |
| Winning | Highest final Victory Point score after bonuses | Alliance completes a level-100 World Wonder |
| World Wonder | Level 100 ends the round; its builder does not automatically win | Level 100 is the alliance victory target |
| Tribes | Romans, Gauls and Teutons | Available lineup depends on the world |
| Robber rewards | Stolen goods and treasures feed the kingdom economy | No Kingdoms stolen-goods system |
| First decision | Which kingdom to join and whether to govern or lead | Which alliance, tribe and world rules to play |
Kingdoms makes leadership part of the game rules
In Kingdoms, King and Governor are game roles with different responsibilities. Kings and dukes manage active Treasuries and collect tributes; Governors develop villages and support the kingdom. A Kingdom Union adds a Vice King. Territory comes from Treasury villages’ influence, so choosing where to settle also means thinking about kingdom borders.
Tributes are produced in addition to a Governor’s normal village production. They do not subtract resources from that production. Treat them as part of the kingdom’s shared economy rather than a tax you manually send from your Warehouse.
In Legends, your alliance can assign leaders, attackers, defenders and support players, but those jobs do not create Kingdoms-style King or Governor mechanics. Ask a prospective team who coordinates defence, where you should settle and how much daily activity they expect before you commit.
Treasures change what a successful Kingdoms raid achieves
Governors and dukes loot stolen goods from robber hideouts and camps. Selling them through the hero inventory gives resources and turns them into treasures for collection through the village’s tribute fund. Kings and vice kings receive treasures directly from robbers. See the official stolen-goods rules.
That gives a Governor a repeatable way to develop their account and contribute to the team score. Before selling a large batch, check your Warehouse and Granary space. Selling inside your own kingdom’s borders also grants a crop bonus.
Treasury attacks have a strategic purpose beyond ordinary resource loot: they can take the treasures that sustain a rival’s score. Coordinate those targets with leadership instead of judging every raid only by its resource haul.
The World Wonder means different things in each game
Regular Legends: the alliance goal is a World Wonder at level 100. Artefacts appear earlier in the round, and construction plans open the endgame. Your group’s economy, defence and offensive armies support that race.
Kingdoms: a World Wonder reaching level 100 ends the round, but the winner is the kingdom with the most Victory Points after final bonuses. Each active treasure normally generates 1 Victory Point per day. The official Victory Point rules confirm that completing the Wonder does not automatically mean winning.
For example, 1,000 active treasures normally generate 1,000 Victory Points per day. Keeping them safe for several days matters even if you are not building the leading Wonder. Treasure protection is a continuing objective rather than something to postpone until the endgame.
Familiar tribe names do not guarantee identical mechanics
Kingdoms offers Romans, Gauls and Teutons. Legends also has Huns, Egyptians, Spartans and Vikings in its wider roster, with availability determined by the world. The Legends tribe overview describes their strengths. Check the registration screen rather than assuming every world offers every tribe.
Even shared tribes have differences. The Kingdoms overview lists double-capacity Gallic Crannies, while the Legends overview lists 1.5× protection. Use guides and calculators written for the game and ruleset you are actually playing.
A Legends Annual Special is not Travian Kingdoms
Legends Annual Specials use regional competition on an Ancient Europe map. They award Victory Points and finish on a set date, rather than using the regular World Wonder victory condition. Sharing the words ‘Victory Points’ does not make their scoring or team mechanics the same as Kingdoms.
Read our Travian game modes guide before choosing a special. Its named ruleset matters as much as its speed: features from one yearly special do not automatically carry into the next.
Which game fits your next round?
- Returning for the classic endgame: choose a regular Legends 1x world and find an alliance before planning your expansion.
- Interested in kingdom politics: choose Kingdoms as a Governor first. Learn the treasure and defence routines before taking a leadership role.
- Want territorial scoring with your Legends team: consider an Annual Special and review its regional rules together.
- Limited daily availability: choose your team and speed carefully in either game. A Governor still needs to manage an account and respond to coordinated play.
- Already playing with friends: agree the exact game, world, tribe, settling area and coverage hours before registering.
These are our recommendations based on the mechanics above, rather than a claim that one game is universally easier or more competitive.
Your next step after choosing Legends
Use World Statistics to research a tracked Legends world’s players, alliances and population trends. Those statistics do not show Kingdoms treasure scores or replace a special world’s in-game Victory Point standings.
Then use the Legends second-village guide to plan your opening. If you choose Kingdoms, follow its official starting guide and your kingdom’s settling instructions instead of copying a Legends build order.
Common questions
Are Travian Kingdoms and Travian Legends the same game?
No. They are separate games. Kingdoms uses ruler and governor roles, influence borders and treasure-based scoring. Legends has regular World Wonder worlds and special rulesets.
Does building the World Wonder win Travian Kingdoms?
Not automatically. A World Wonder at level 100 ends the round, but the kingdom with the most Victory Points after final bonuses wins.
Which tribes can you play in Travian Kingdoms?
Kingdoms offers Romans, Gauls and Teutons. Legends has additional tribes in its wider roster, but the available lineup depends on the world.
Is a Legends Annual Special the same as Kingdoms?
No. Legends Annual Specials use regional Victory Points and a fixed finish date. They do not use the Kingdoms ruler, influence and treasure system.
Which game should a returning Travian player choose?
We recommend regular Legends at 1x for the familiar alliance World Wonder race. Choose Kingdoms if its ruler roles and treasure objectives appeal to you, and start as a Governor to learn with an established team.
Can I use a Legends build order for Kingdoms?
Do not assume it transfers unchanged. Check Kingdoms requirements and tribe bonuses, and follow your kingdom’s settling plan. This site’s linked second-village guide is written for Legends.
